Stalybridge Celtic Blues 0 v 2 AFC Clayton................By Alun Ireland..................... The Blues' luck deserted them as they were unfortunate not to take a point from an exciting encounter with Clayton. The boys worked hard but the moves which came off to defeat Moston Brook last week didnt always find their target, and a strong Clayton side took full advantage. In a tight first half played in poor conditions, both teams were even - Deacon looking strong in goal for the Blues and Clayton's defence giving only half chances to Stalybridge. A lucky goal - the wet weather allowing the ball to slip underneath Deacon - to Clayton was the only difference between the sides at half time. In the second half the Blues came out fighting, with good chances falling to Adam and Connor before a goal mouth scramble at the other end resulted in the ball going high into the Stalybridge net. But the boys did not give up, and created even more chances. Two ...

SCJFC U9's Whites 4 V 0 Failsworth Dynamo's Whites..........By Tim Kieran........................................................ A slightly disappointing first half with both teams finding it difficult to get going on a very cold but clear morning, understandable after a long break over Christmas and the cancelled games due to the snow. Celtic were lucky not to go one down after a free kick was awarded to Failsworth with the resulting shot coming back off the post and scrambled away from the area by Celtic. Stalybridge found them selves one nil up, slightly fortunate but a goal is a goal. A Declan cross along the floor only found the keeper at the near post, but somehow he fumbled the ball over the line. A few minutes later it was nearly two nil, Oscar won a free kick just outside the box after a good mazy run, the referee, who had a good game initially, played advantage but when the Celtic move broke down he pulled it back and awarded the earlier foul...

Moston Brook 2 V 3 SCJFC U9s Blues...........By Alun Ireland The Blues made it a happy new year as they outplayed one of the best teams in the league to start 2011 with a win. Playing their best football for months, the Blues were first to every loose ball and constantly threatened their opponents’ goal with neat passing moves. With several chances missed, it was just what the boys deserved when Connor worked hard to win the ball in the right corner, and squared a lovely pass across the box taking out the defender and goalkeeper for Jack to slot home at the back post. With Daniel S strong at the back, Daniel L and William were both unlucky to see shots go over the bar as the Blues continued to press forward. It was against the run of play when the Blues got caught committing too many men forward and Moston Brook made no mistake shooting past Thomas in goal to make it 1-1 at half time. In the second half, Moston had more of the ball, but...

Stalybridge Celtic u9s had 3 teams in todays Junior Soccer Leagues 4 a side Christmas tournament at Curzon Ashtons Astroturf pitches. The teams SCJFC Ronaldinho's, SCJFC Kaka's and SCJFC Lucio's All gave a great display today, with the Ronaldinho's and Kaka's both getting to the semi finals and unfortunately having to play each other. The SCJFC Ronaldinhos were victorious after winning 4-0 and reaching the final scoring over 50 goals so far with not a single goal conceded, and with only 4 players so no subs. The final against Clayton AFC was a tough game as Oscar, Joe, Thomas and Declan were feeling tired, but not too tired as they ran out 2-0 winners thanks to two goals from Declan to win their fifth tournament of 2010 from 7 finals this year.. A great year for the boys well done!!

SCJFC Whites were today victorious after winning yet another tournament in 2010. The boys took maximum points in the group stage with 5 wins from 5, against some tough sides including Mossley Hill from Merseyside who are renound for producing very strong teams who play good entertaining football, and Hough End who had to beat us in the last group game to go through and tried to out muscle us, but as usual we continued to play football and won 2-0. The SCJFC Blues were really unlucky to miss out on the group stage and were denied a quarter final place by narrowly missing out on goal difference, but gave a good solid display only losing one game. The Quarter finals saw the Whites play Hale united and the whites played some superb football to win 3-0. Semis were against Sale utd who we have met numerous times in tournaments in the late stages and the boys continued to the final winning 2-0. In the final the Celts played Adswood whose players certainly looked on the big...

SCJFC Whites 12 v 0 ProSport Strikers................. It was top versus bottom in todays game though within the first five minutes any neutral may have been mistaken in guessing who the top and bottom side were. Pro sport were certainly looking the brighter team as the Celts just could not get going. It needed someone to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and that player was Joe who went on a blistering run down the right hand flank to bury an unstoppable shot in the bottom of the left hand side of the net. The boys needed Joe to show them how its done again with a further 2 strikes into the net before the boys then started to play football. 3-0. From this moment the boys were in cruise mode and the goals came thick and fast with Callum and Declan getting on the scoresheet. Half time 5 nil. Second half saw the boys continue to dominate from the center with a neat passing move ending with Callum scoring to make it 6. Thomas in goal was itching to get some involvem...

Failsworth West Lions 1 v 4 SCJFC Blues.............By Alun Ireland................ Celtic put in their best performance since playing the Whites to take all three points against a Failsworth West team for the first time. The Blues were quickly into their stride to dominate the first half against the Lions and the 3-0 scoreline at half time was well deserved. From the kick off, William and Connor kept the team moving forward, but it was a Daniel L tackle and through ball that allowed William to open the scoring. Immediately afterwards, William turned provider for Connor who made no mistake, and then a great cross again from William found Conor unmarked in the box to head home. The second half was closer as the Blues collectively switched off and lost shape for a while, and the Lions got one back when they outnumbered the Blues defence. Adam restored the three goal cushion when he punched the ball home following quick passes between man of the match Conor and...

SCJFC Blues 0 v 1 Failsworth West Tigers .........By Alun Ireland........... A late winner from Failsworth West meant that the Blues slipped to defeat despite an upbeat performance. The boys played well and probably deserved a point after having the majority of the play and the chances in the first half. Only a brave display by the Failsworth keeper kept the scores level at half time as first William, then Connor and Adam threatened to put the Blues in front. With Daniel S and Deacon looking secure at the back. Connor and William were able to really trouble the Tigers midfield. But in the second half the Blues let Failsworth back into the game, and they took their chance having more of the play and isolating Daniel S and Thomas on too many occasions. It was on one of these breaks where Failsworth managed to score the only goal of the game, and the Blues never looked like getting back into it. In fact, only two excellent saves from Thomas kept the score ...

Moston Brook 2 v 6 SCJFC Whites The Whites had a tough top of the table contest today against 2nd place Moston Brook. It was Moston who started the brighter and took an early lead within 2 minutes from some sloppy play from the Celts. Celtic continued to play poorly though all credit to Moston who capitalized and made in 2 nil within 7 minutes. Stalybridge then realized they had to move up a gear and some good passing helped Niall to finish to put the Whites back in the game. Further attacks from Celtic with swift passing gave Callum his chance and he took it to make it 2-2. Half time 2-2. The second half saw Celtic come out of the traps quickly as Niall got on the end of a spilled cross to make it 2-3. Further attacks from Celtic exposed Moston and Oscar got on the score sheet with a cross come shot that the keeper could not hold putting Celtic further in front. The wave of attacks continued as Celtic were now dominating with Declan making it 5 and with the last ...

Stalybridge Celtic Whites 6 v 0 Moston Junior Reds..By Tim Kieran.... A nice and sunny winter morning with a 9am kick off saw Celtic start the game with lots of confidence, setting a high tempo with the midfield well in control keeping possession and using the football with intelligence. Six minutes in and a clearance from Joe fell to Niall in the Moston penalty area, Niall slipped and we thought the chance had gone but on his way down a slight touch had the ball rolling into the net to open the scoring. A few minutes later Dec had a decent effort which saw his shot just clear the top corner of the goal. A good throw out from Tom to Joe - who always made himself available - then passed to Dec down the right who in turn crossed a high ball into the box which Moston couldn't defend, Niall lost his marker with a good run and finished with quality for his brace. Three minutes before half time Robson and Callum came off the bench with Callum nearly making it 3-...
