Stalybridge Celtic B 0 - 4 West End Wasps (By D Bennett) What a day, beautiful winter sunshine with little wind, perfect football conditions and the B's more than matched their superior rivals. Solid defending by Will saw their star man cut off time after time and once again Reece was magnificent in goal.  All our players held there positons well but a free kick half way through the 1st half saw the Wasps in front. Undetered the B's threaded some attacks together and thought they had found the breakthrough when Marcus netted from a good cross from Rhys but the ref saw something different and a goal kick was the decicion. Then we came in for the break, we made some changes and off we went for the second half we battled well but the Wasps were to strong and found the net another 3 times but all the kids battled well and never gave up. STALYBRIDGE CELTIC A 4-3 BOUNDARY PARK A (By S Kewley) A fine 2nd half comeback saw the A team continue their good recent run of results. On a perfect day for football both teams started strongly and passed the ball around well. Ethan and Alex were called upon in defence on a few occassions and both got in some important tackles and interceptions. Boundary Park restricted Stalybridge to only a couple of chances with Sam shooting from distance but unfortunately going wide. It was looking like the teams would be going in at half time with nothing between them. However, somewhat unfortunately, Boundary Park grabbed 2 quick goals before the break. A corner whipped in deflected in off an unlucky Alex. Moments later Boundary Park broke down the left and the shot deflected off Ethan and passed stand in keeper for the day Nathan to take a 2-0 lead. After some encouraging words from the coaches at half time the boys started the 2nd half strongly. Jack started the comeback pulling the firs... Read the rest of this article...

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC ‘A’ 6 v 1 STAYBRIDGE CELTIC ‘B’  By Alan Davies   Saturday brought the much, awaited showdown between the ‘A’ Team and the ‘B’ Team. The game began with both teams showing strong defences with little being given by both sides. The opening goal came from a mistake by Kai in the ‘B’s goal, which came from pressure by Nathan. Shortly after the ref gave a penalty which Mathew was called up to take. After his long run up from the goal area and his shot passed Kai into the top corner. Everyone was dismayed as the ref disallowed it, as he had not blown his whistle. However Mathews retake went passed the left post to the relief of the ‘B’ Team. More pressure from the ‘A Team brought it rewards with a fine finish from Dan. The second half saw a few changes with Mathew swapping roles with Nathan and Jack coming on. The ‘A’ Team began to take control of the game with some fine passing and midfield play. This play allowed for Dan to get in good positions and scored ... Read the rest of this article...

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC ‘A’ 5 v 0 BOUNDARY PARK JUNIORS ‘B’  By Alan Davies   Celtic’s good run of form carried on with a comfortable win over Boundary Park Juniors. The first half saw a hatrick from Nathan to take his tally to eight and the ‘A’ teams top scorer. All three goals coming in a first half of high tempo as Jack provided strength and width down the left. Alex and Ethan were very solid at the back not allowing Boundary Park many chances. The second half saw Boundary Park provide stiffer opposition as they pressed to reduce Celtics lead. However a strike by Jack from outside the box gave Celtic their fourth and kept up Jacks good scoring run. Then came a mistake from Mathew who misjudged his area and the ref gave a penalty. Mathew made up for his error with a good save and gathered at the second attempt. Soon after Sam made a good run and finish and this sealed an excellent win for Celtic. Man of the match Nathan.

Stalybridge Celtic B 3 - 3 Failsworth Dynamos A by  Dave Bennett   This was one of our best displays and we were unlucky not to win the match. We started a little shakey with Dynamos starting the stronger, a nice piece of skill from Will in defence saw him backheel the ball out of danger and the ever dependble Megs was solid as ever, but the well deserved man of the match for some tremendous saves and clearances was Reece in goal. Dynamos broke through twice in the first and were 2 nil up but Rhys and Marcus combined well and Marcus found the net.  That was the confidence we needed, George was also strong on the left wing, so we came in at half time 1-2. We started the second half as strong as we finished the 1st, a good run up the right from Rhys saw his cross deflected for a corner, or so we thought, but a goal kick was the decision and this provided the break for Dynamos third. We held strong and some darting runs from Lewis saw them on the backfo... Read the rest of this article...

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC ‘A’ 6 v 0 MOORSIDE JUNIORS (By Alan Davies)   Celtic took their recent good form into this match and provided a faultless display to dispatch Moorside Juniors. Ryan and Nathan bagged one each in the first half with Celtic on top for most of the half. Mathew was only called on a couple of times to keep the ball out as Moorside’s No.3. caused the most problems for the Celtic defence. Jack and Dan came on for the second half with Nathan providing cover in goal for Mathew who stepped into right back. Jack provided speed and some good passing down the right and kept his good run going with a goal early in the second half. Celtic now very much on top provided the highlight of the match with a sweet strike from Alex on the halfway line that beat the keeper. Another goal from Sam to keep up his impressive tally and a late strike from Dan saw Celtic through to a convincing win. Mathews stint in defence added strength to the back line and Nathan provided a solid ... Read the rest of this article...

By Dave Dickin   A hard game for all today against a very strong Chaddy End team.  From the kick off it was hard going.  Chaddy End took the lead 5 minutes in and then they never looked back.  We went in at half time 3-0 down thanks to some good saves from Kai. The second half we tried hard with Rhys and Marcus battling hard for the team,  we just couldnt get passed a big, strong Chaddy End team. In the end we lost 7-0 but we tried hard all the way till the end.  Keep your heads up and keep battling boys (and Megs)!!  The results will come.

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC ‘A’ 2 v 0 MOSTON BROOK (by Alan Davies) Celtic provided a confident display in wet and windy conditions to see off the challenge of Moston Brook by 2-0. Celtic started brightly with some good passing and moving to put Moston under pressure. This play soon paid off with an excellent through ball by Jack to release Sam to score in the corner past a helpless Moston keeper. The pressure continued throughout the half with Moston struggling to clear their lines. Any Moston attacks were cut down by Alex at the back with good defensive play. Towards the end of the half Dan had two good chances but for last ditch tackles by the Moston defence. Moston were glad to hear the half time whistle as Celtic moved forward again. The second half started where the first had finished with Jack and Nathan playing central roles in the breaking up Moston attacks and providing Ryan with chances up front. Jacks reward came with a right foot strike from outside the box that nestled into the ... Read the rest of this article...

Stalybridge celtic B  1 - 3 Failsworth West A By Dave bennett   Today we started by playing Marcus on the left wing instead of his more defensive roll at the back, with Connor slotting in at left back along side William. Both Rhys and Marcus put some good crosses in and Lewis was unlucky not to convert at least two good chances which was down to good defending by Failsworth. The second half saw the introduction of Megan and George, it also saw the rain, all the kids played very well considering the conditions with Megan sometimes defending on her own as we lost our shape a little with players wandering out of position. Our consolation came about 3/4 of the way through the game when George pounced on a poor clearance from the failsworth keeper. M O T M  Marcus

Stalybridge Celtic B 2-3 Moston Jnrs (by D Bennett)   The 1st half saw some good runs on the wing from George, with Lewis & Chancely also getting forward, William and Megan held firm at the back with some good clearances, Moston started applying pressure and forced some mistakes at the back and we came in at half time 3 nil down.   The B's held their heads up, with Rhys and Marcus coming on, and shortly after the break Rhys found the break through and pulled a goal back, then Marcus followed up quickly with a second and the B's were in the driving seat we were very unlucky not to get a draw when a bit of confusion in the box saw the ball just go wide of the post. M.O.T.M Lewis.
