STALYBRIDGE CELTIC BLUES ‘4’   –    MOSTON JUNIOR REDS ‘1’ By Alan Davies   Another convincing performance saw the blues ease into the next round of the cup. Straight from the kick off Celtic were on top and putting pressure on the Moston goal. Had it not been for some fortunate blocks and good goal keeping Celtic would have scored. The deadlock was broken with Jordan nipping in to take Celtic into half time 1-0 up. The second came shortly after the break with a fine free kick from Nathan who again had an excellent game at the heart of the defence and breaking forward. Cameron was always looking for a goal and had a couple of shots go wide. However the third was left to Marcus with a good strike form outside the box that eased inside the post. Moston then had a few minutes of play where Celtic went to sleep and scored. However Celtic went straight from the kick off and Cameron got his goal with an unstoppable shot that went ... Stalybridge Celtic Whites 4-1 Failsworth West Panthers By Phil Read The Whites kicked off their cup campaign in style with a 4:1 victory over the Panthers. Soon in to their stride they went 1:0 up with a fine free kick from Rhys. Waves of attack continued with a physical Panthers side doing their upmost to break up our flowing play. Midway through the first period the opposition did manage to bring themselves level which wouldn't last for long.   Despite some of the challenges that were flying in the lads kept their nerve and shape which paid dividends when Callum managed to score a brace before half time to take the score to 3:1.   The second half pretty much followed the first with lots of possesion and knocks for their effort. Despite having plenty of pressure the Whites found the goalkeeper in fine form and seemed to be a match for everything thrown at him. A further goal was added midway through the second period when a neat ball played through by Jack w... Read the rest of this article...

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC BLUES ‘3’   –    MIGHTY DRAGONS ‘0’ By Alan Davies   A top of the table clash saw Celtic put the Mighty Dragons to the sword. A very close first half with Celtic probably just taking it on points. Both sets of defences were on top and both keepers not really tested. The second half saw Celtic take the initiative with Jordan making good progress down the left and Cameron moving up front. However it was Nathan who broke the dead lock with some fine play and finish. He picked the ball up on the left of mid field and shrugged of two challenges before shooting past the keeper. This gave Celtic the lift they needed and it wasn’t long before Jordan made it two after good work from Lewis. The Mighty Dragons tried to get back into the game but Nathan and Max with help from Mat kept the clean sheet. It was left to Cameron to score the third and give Celtic a good win. Man of the Match Nathan.

Stalybridge Celtic Whites 5-1 Moston Brook By Phil Read The White's fine start to the season continued on Saturday. They soon found themselves 1.0 up when Rhys fired in a fierce shot and whilst the goalie made a great save Jack responded first to slot in the rebound. Shortly after the goal Shay also unleashed a fine shot which was also unfortunately met by the keeper. Despite a fair bit of possession for the remainder of the half the opposition managed to smother the player with the ball and keep the scoreline down to 1.0 at half time. After encouragement to spread the ball around at half time the boys responded superbly and soon found themselves 2.0 up with a great strike by Nic. Pretty much straight from the kick off the Whites won the ball back and it was played out wide to Jack who managed to draw a couple of players and then switch the ball to the right which was met by Rhys to make it 3.0. Against the run of play Moston managed to steal the ball at ... Read the rest of this article...

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC BLUES ‘4’   –    MIDWAY ‘5’ By Alan Davies   A very exciting game with goals and controversy a plenty. Celtic conceded in the first seconds as Midway pressed forward from the kickoff. The next goal came from an attempted kick out from Mathew that hit a Midway player charging the ball down. It was felt that this should have been disallowed however the ref allowed the goal. Celtic then went 3-0 down with a scrambled goal with Mathew having the ball kicked from his hands. The half time whistle couldn’t come quick enough to give Celtic time to re group. This they did and came out in second half more positive which led to an early goal from Callum Dawson. Soon after Midway scored again from a long range effort. Celtic however kept battling against a physical team and got their reward with a goal from Jordan to make it 4-2. Celtic then pushed forward and looked the better team. Callum Rawson then scored to... Read the rest of this article...

Stalybridge Celtic Whites 5-2 Failsworth West Tigers By Phil Read Unlike the first 3 games of the season the Whites managed to get straight in to their stride this week, playing some flowing football and opening up the Tigers midfield at will. It was only a matter of time before the Whites would score and that came from Shay with a glancing header. Following the early goal the pressure continued, for a couple of minutes the game was like penalty area pinball with shot after shot being blocked by a brave and determined Tigers defence, Shay, Rhys, Jack and Nic all being unlucky not to score. Through this passage of play Josh only had one real save to make and comfortably dealt with the one on one at the edge of his box. The Whites managed to extend their lead midway through the first half with a break down the right, the ball was then squared to Nic who fired the ball which span in to the back of the net in off the post. Unfortunately the Tigers found their way back in ... Read the rest of this article...

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC BLUES ‘1’ –   FAILSWORTH PANTHERS ‘1’ By Alan Davies   A tight game that saw both teams creating chances but both defences were on top and gave little away. Nathan and Max at the back with a solid performance from Mat saw the teams go in 0-0 at half time. Celtic then had the best of the game with Callum Dawson creating space and chances down the left. However the Panthers defence just seemed to be in the right place to defect shots wide or over. Mat made good saves to keep Panthers long range shots out. The break through came as their keeper could not hold a shot from Callum and Aaron bundled the ball into the net. This should have been the win but from a rare attack the ball broke and a long shot found the top corner despite a desperate dive by Mat. Probably a fair result with Celtic keeping up their unbeaten run. Man of the Match. Mathew

Stalybridge Celtic whites 4-1 Failsworth West Lions By Phil Read. The Whites continues their unbeaten start to season with a hard fought win over the Lions. The game started off a little scrappy and the whites soon found themselves one nil down before a goal from Shay brought them level along with signs of them settling down into their flowing football. The match continued end to end and it took a fine save from Josh to keep the scores level. Soon after the Whites broke down the left and Jack crossed to find Shay making a run to the near post with the ball finding the net following a deflection off the defender. 2-1 at half time. In the second half the Whites got off to a good start and settled in to playing some better flowing football with Alex and Callum bossing the midfield, Rhys making some good runs down the wing. Midway through the half Callum showed some skills to lose his marker and play Shay in for the Whites third goal.  The Whites finally pu... Read the rest of this article...

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC BLUES ‘6’ –   FAILSWORTH VILLA BLUES ‘0’ By Alan Davies   A one sided game that saw Celtic dominate proceedings. It took Celtic  nearly 10mins of constant pressure before Callum Dawson’s left foot strike hit the back of the net. In a constant drizzle Celtic still pushed forward to increase there lead but some dogged defending kept the score 1-0 at half time. It was only time before the second came along with Jordan’s hard work paying off with a smart finish. Failsworth were then in trouble at the back with Jordan adding the third before Callum Rawson latched onto a shot across the box to make it 4-0. The last two goals came within a minute again from Callum Rawson picking up his second hatrick in a week. All players again showing good skills with Max, Nathan and Mathew very under used at the back. Man of The Match Callum Dawson

Failsworth Villa 0-2 Stalybridge Celtic Whites By Phil Read The whites got off to a good start today with early pressure and some great link up play between Rhys, Nic, Jack and Luke. Alex and Sam were also excellent in defence allowing the opposition just one real opportunity and along with Josh cooly played the balls out once won. Even then Josh was up to the challenge dealing with the one on one and releasing the midfield for another attack. Later on in the half the Whites eventually took a deserved lead. Rhys found himself in space down the right and fired in a fierce shot and despite being saved managed to get a corner. A cross to the back post from Nic found Rhys and this time the keeper had no chance.  The scored remaining 1:0 up to half time. The second half continued where the team finished the first with some entertaining crisp passing but unfortunately few clear chances were created. Callum was introduced to the midfield ensuring the opposition little time ... Read the rest of this article...
