STALYBRIDGE CELTIC ‘A’ 2 v 2 Reddish Vulcans By Alan Davies   The last game of the season saw a distinct game of two half as the old cliché says but this was true. Vulcans who had thrashed Celtic 7-0 in their previous encounter started the better and put Celtic under pressure. This soon brought about a goal and Vulcans could have had more but for some strong defensive work and goal keeping. However Vulcans did get another and went in at half time 2-0. The second half saw one of the best halves from the ‘A’ with good passing and moving from Marcus and Jack with Alex strong at the back. Some good kick outs from Mathew and the team deserved the draw maybe more. Marcus scored the first with a sweet strike from outside the box. Sam picked up the equalizer with a well placed shot passed the keeper. A good performance to finish the season. Man of the Match. Marcus.

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC ‘A’ 2 v 3 WEST END WOLVES By Alan Davies   A difficult encounter with a very good side in the West End Wolves saw Celtic’s first defeat in a number of games. Celtic got off to a slow start, which allowed West End to dominate the first minutes and quickly had two goals without Celtic having a shot on goal. Celtic then began to press forward with Sam and Jack working hard. The first break came as a cross from Jack was to be converted by Sam but a West End handball gave Celtic a penalty. Jack stepped up and calmly blasted into the bottom corner. Game on. A slip in defence allowed West End to the bye line and unfortunately Sam slid into his own net. The second half saw a far more even contest with Celtic coming out on top. The half saw Ryan and Alex replaced by Ethan and Marcus. It was Celtic who started the better with play more in the West End half and but for an outstanding display by the keeper Celtic would have come away with a win. Celtic second goal was set... Stalybridge Celtic 2 - Chadderton Park Lions 7 By Joanne Wood Another glorious day of sunshine but Celtic faced tough opposition against a strong side. The Lions took the lead almost straight away followed by a good few shots on goal by Celtic, but unfortunately not in the back of the net.  The lead was then increased by two further great goals from the Lions.  Will's defending and a cracking save from Reece prevented the lead being bigger, however it was only a short time as a 4th goal was scored by the Lions.  Again, there were a couple of missed chances by Celtic before Chancely managed to find the back of the net followed swiftly by an own goal bringing the scoreline to 5-2.    Celtic did a valiant job of keeping the pressure on the Lions with George making some good runs up the pitch with the ball. Rhys and Lewis had good attempts on goal but another goal for Celtic was not to be.  A further 2 goals from the opposit... Read the rest of this article...

Broadway Celtic 3 Stalybridge Celtic 3 By Joanne Wood This was another warm sunny day and today's match was definitely a game of 2 halves, with Broadway dominating the game in the majority of first half play.  The game got off to a worrying start with the opposition scoring 2 goals within minutes of kick-off with Stalybridge barely getting any possession of the ball.  Things went from bad to worse with Stalybridge conceding an own goal leaving them trailing behind by 3-0.  However, the boys did not give up and the motivation they all needed came with George picking up the ball in midfield, running and drilling a hard, low shot to the right side of the keeper leaving them 3-1 down at half-time.  Stalybridge came back on in fighting spirit and started to dominate the game.  They began to retain their shape and 2 cracking strikes from Rhys resulted in the game ending 3-3.  At the back, Megan and Will kept the defence opposition at bay and Lewi...   STALYBRIDGE CELTIC ‘A’ 2 v 0 CLAYTON JUNIORS By Alan Davies   As Clayton were a player short it was another easy win for Celtic. It probably should have been more but some backs to wall defending kept the score at a reasonable level. Pressure on Claytons goal came straight from kick off as the extra man was evident. Celtics first goal came through an own goal after a good strike for Sam that the goalie could not hold. With no subs available Celtic had all players with a full game and it showed how well the game has come on with passing and moving from Jack and Sam. Marcus breaking up the play in midfield and Ethan and Alex defending well. Marcus scored the second after a break  from midfield, Sam laying the ball across the box for a tap in. Mathew had little to do but kept a clean sheet and with the games close to finishing Celtic are showing some good end of season form. Man of the Match Sam.

Stalybridge Celtic B 1 - Chadderton Park Griffins 5 By Joanne Wood Saturday saw a climate change with temperatures higher than the team are used to and this seemed to drain them of their usual high energy levels.  They faced an uphill struggle from the very start of the game by conceding 2 goals in quick succession.  After a short while the team did settle down and there were some good runs down the wing and strong crosses from Rhys but unfortunately there was nobody lying in wait to put the ball in the net.  The opposition was a strong side and went on to increase their lead and the half-time score stood at 3-0.  Despite a stronger defence in the second half, the Griffins increased the lead to 4-0.  There was a glimmer of hope when the oppostion scored an own goal which was created by a good cross from Rhys but unfortunately this was not not enough to fire up Stalybridge's enthusiasm and the Griffins scored a final goal and ran out 5-1 win...   STALYBRIDGE CELTIC ‘A’ 4 v 1 MOSTON JUNIORS By Alan Davies   This was an easy win eventually for Celtic. The possession was 90% Celtics as they pushed forward to overrun a weakened Moston side. The only job Mathew had was to pick the ball out of the net. It was however not until Nathan had opened the scoring did Celtic begin to make the score look more convincing. Marcus took full advantage and scored a hatrick with some good midfield play allowing him to get into the box. The only goal scored by Moston was when all the Celtic players wanted to have a shot at goal and the ball broke leaving a one on one with Mathew. Man of the Match. Marcus

BOUNDARY PARK B 1 - 3 STALYBRIDGE CELTIC B  by Joanne Wood.  The glorious sunshine had a positive impact on the team as they sealed a good win over Boundary Park B for the second time this season. The first half was an even game and the opposition had a couple of shots on goal which Reece managed to save.  The game got more exciting as Stalybridge had lots of scoring opportunities when virtually every player managed to take a shot on goal but not actually managing to get the ball into the back of the net.  Good passing skills paid off when Rhys found the back of the net and Stalybridge took the lead.  This was short lived as Boundary Park equalised.  However, Stalybridge were undeterred and their determination paid off as they dominated the second half with George and Will keeping the ball in the opposition's half and Megan and Connor assisting Rhys who went on to score a hatrick.  This was a great game and a good win for the team and the result is te... Stalybridge Celtic 0 - 5 West End Wasps by Dave Bennett   Spring is here at last though it didnt feel like it down at Failsworth today with a strong cold westerly blowing. On the pitch Celtic got off to a good start with the whole team combining well against a strong West End side. George and Will were strong at the back  and  Rhys, Lewis & Chancely worked hard to try and find the break through but to no avail. HT 0-1. The second half saw Megan and Daniel come on and to be fair they all kept going to the end but we were caught out mainly by powerful long range looping shots. If it wasn't for a number of good saves from both Kai & Reece it could of been more than 0-5 final score. Well done team for not giving in.  M O T M Rhys

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC ‘A’ 1 v 1 FAILSWORTH DYNAMOS ‘A’ By Alan Davies   Celtic were looking for revenge over Failsworth after a 1-0 loss earlier in the season. The game opened with a kick off that Mathew just managed to get a leg on and deflected wide. This was a feature of Failsworth’s play with their big defender making Mathew work in front of goal. After the early encounters Celtic began to put their passing game together with Ryan and Sam linking up front. However the Failsworth’s defender seemed to get the best of Sam and cleared the ball on most occasions. On one of these occasions the defender moved up and made a powerful shot that beat Mathew. The second half saw Jack and Alex come on but an early injury saw Alex replaced with Marcus. Jacks strong running gave Celtic the edge in the second half and it wasn’t long before a corner lead to a deflected goal, which Jack would claim as his. A feature of Celtics play was the quick kick outs from Mathew and good passing from the de... Read the rest of this article...
