Today we played Ashville Youth (Liverpool) in the first round of the Cheshire County Cup and came away with a hard fought 2-1 win. In the first half we took the lead after Jack was fouled in the penalty box and Danny stepped up to slot home, and this was how it stayed until half time. Second half much the same as the first with both teams having limited chances and eventually Ashville drew level with a fine strike from outside the box, which hit the underside of the cross bar and the referee adjudged it had crossed the line (no need for goal line technology at our level). We made a few substitutions with Ted on the left creating problems for Ashville and eventually got his just rewards slotting home from inside the six yard box after battling his way through with about five minutes left to play. Another good display today, we just need to working harder and holding onto the ball upfront. Something for training on Thursday.
Scorers: Danny, Ted

Today we played Hollinwood (first time the two teams have met) away and came away with a hard fought 5-3 win. In the opening stages of the game things were looking easy and we took a 2-0 lead, George and Danny providing the goals. This seemed to awaken Hollinwood and they slowly got into the game with some good passing football and pulled one back with a shot from outside the box, which caught Charlie off his line and the ball looped into the net 2-1 and this was how it stayed until half time. Second half and a very even contest with both teams creating chances and Charlie pulling off some excellent saves in goal. The Celts got the first goal (Danny) to make it 3-1, but this did not kill off Hollinwood who battled back and made it 3-3. Then a controversial moment when we were awarded a penalty that seemed a little harsh, Danny stepped up and slotted home for his hatrick, 4-3. Then in the dying moments we broke away and Dylan got his name on the score sheet, 5-3.
A really good per...

Perhaps on another day we could have won this game, but a bizarre decision in the first half set the the tone for the rest of the game. After going 1-0 down following a shot from the edge of the box, the Celts won a corner, the ball was played in, the Waterloo keeper collected the ball stepped backwards into the goal, dropped the ball behind the goal line and the referee waved play on. Half time 0-1. Second half up the slope the Celts took the game to Waterloo and had a few half chances but could not finish. We changed the formation (3 at the back) to try and get the goals we needed, but we then got caught on the break and we ended losing 4-0. Frustrating game today, the lads need to play in the position they are given, we need to support each other more and work in training on getting the ball behind the fullbacks and attacking from midfield. Looking forward to training on Wednesday.

It was first (Celtic) versus second today (yes I know this is only our 3rd game of the season), so it was going to be a good test for the lads. Once again it was more like Chigaco than Manchester as the wind was blowing from on end of the pitch to the other, good thing was we seemed to have learnt from the same conditions on Tuesday. In the first half we played with the wind and took the game to Middleton, plenty of chances came our way, but we ere unable to score. Middleton had chances of their own and surprisingly took the lead. A defensive clearance found one of their players offside (no whistle from the ref), who took the ball on, beat Charlie and slotted the ball home. Then straight from the kick off Danny played a long ball up the right hand side of the pitch, Dylan received the ball, beat the full back and slotted the ball home (a move they had discussed before the game, or so they told us). Half time 1-1. Second half much the same as the first, then Middleton played the ball th...

After last week Celtic really turned on the style,a diving header by James N at the far post set them off on what seemed to be a comfortable game. Dillon made it two, then a long kick forward by Reddish left the back four of Celtic static and we paid the price. A couple of minutes later and Dillon made it three, from this point on the Reddish team started to intimidate the Celtic players. Dillon made a darting run into the area only to be chopped down by the Reddish keeper and the penalty shot by George went well wide, should this have gone in the game would have been beyond the Reddish side.Celtic for some reason then got dragged down to the Reddish sides level.
The half time team talk made little difference to Celtic's game which was by then a lost cause.
Two further mistakes on the keeper's part left the teams all square but a timely tackle by Oliver stopped Celtic from falling behind. A tactical change to the team line up seemed...

First game of the season for the Saturday side and boy did it show.Gone was the flowing football of last season. We came up against a side who just lumped the ball forward and Celtic decided to follow this style of play. Hitting the ball down the middle for the forwards to chase after just did not work. The two central defenders for Brendan Bees had a field day mopping up everything that was thrown at them.On the one occasion that Celtic did pass the ball about we were awarded a free kick out side the box which Alex B fired into the far corner. This seemed to wake up the Bees and they soon equalized when a cross come shot looped into the Celtic goal. Half time and some strong words did not have any effect on the team. Mid-way through the second half and the Bees hit the winner with a curling shot from outside the box which the keeper had no chance of stopping. Man of the match was Dillon.

Last night the 15s played Mossley Juniors and came away with a 7-1 victory. In the first half we played with the wind in our favour (which didn't do us any favours) and went in at half time 1-0 up. Second half we passed the ball better and scored another 6, with Danny getting a hatrick, Dylan a couple and Tom coming off the bench to get his goal.. Jack also got his goal for the season following on from what looked like an OG in the first half (this was referred to the dubious goals panel - aka Jack) who awarded the goal to himself.
Another good performance, well done to all.

Today the 15s played Springhead (the first time the two teams have ever met) with the Celts coming out comfortable 4-1 winners. In the first half the Celts took the game to Springhead and squandered a few chances, before Dylan battled his way through their defence and his shot deflected off the keeper and rolled over the line. George later then added a second, Dylan broke down the right crossed to George who played a neat one two with the post before slotting the ball home. This rallied Springhead and in one of their attacks a speculative shot found Charlie off his line and the ball looped into the net. The second half went much the way of the first, with Danny chasing what looked like a sure thing for their keeper to collect on the edge of his box, however, he made a mistake and Danny was on hand to slot the ball home. Later in the half Charlie redeem himself for his earlier error by saving a penalty, Springhead broke down the left and a mis timed tackle by Harry resulted in the penal...

Today the under 14s played Boundary Park and came away with yet another draw. Things were looking decidely dodgy for the 14s when only ten turned up to play. However, the lads did themselves proud with a very spirited display and if it hadn't have been for some strange decisons we could have taken all the points. The game started well for the Celts, going down the slope and applying the early pressure and we soon found ourselves 1-0 up with a close range finish from Jack. Before the end of the half Boundary pulled one back. Half time 1-1. In the second half the Celts came under increased pressure and Boundary soon added two to their score 1-3, with some help from the man in the middle. This seemed to wind the lads up and they started to fight back. We were awarded a penalty that George converted 2-3. then Bezy (aka Will) slotted home neatly with his left 3-3. Charlie (goalkeeper) then kicked from box to box a kind bounce and Adam headed home 4-3. The ref then indicated two minutes...
