Stalybridge Celtics Under 12's

The U12's beat Rochdale St Clements 3-2 in extra time of the league cup. The lads put in another fantastic performance to beat a very strong St Clements team who beat us 3 weeks ago. That was our only defeat of the season so far but since then the lads have really started to look strong in every department. I've had a fantastic response from all the parents about how the lads are really competing well as a team. Today was another great example of courage & determination to come back twice from a goal down to take the game into extra time & go onto win. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT, WELL DONE LADS.

The U12's edged out Gamesley in a really competetive match. We started well and created quite a few chances which could and should have put the game to bed in the first half. We got goals either side of half time but Gamesley fought back. Aidan was once again very impressive in goal & pulled off some great saves to keep us in the game. The defence stood firm. Callum Gaskin is fitting in well & both he & Ethan had their hands full keeping their impressive wingers out. Fletch & Garrett controlled the centre very well & didn't really look too troubled. James had his work cut out against their no. 5 who was a really quick lad & Marshy came on to have a good impact with his workrate as the game progressed. Lewis & Josh tried to play some decent passing moves in the middle with Alex once again never shirking a challenge. Kyle & Jamie are starting to build a good partnership up front & cuased Gamesley plenty of problems. ... Read the rest of this article...

The under 12's got a great result against 3Ds. After a wake up call last week we dominated the first half and played some great football. 2 goals from Jamie & Kyle sealed the game but we could have had far more in the first half as we created chance after chance. All in all a great team effort that was a marked improvement from last week. Well done lads, now keep it up.

The U12's lost 3-0 to Rochdale St Clements in a closer game than the score indicates. On the full size pitch for the first time and playing against a really strong wind we were under pressure from the start. St Clements kept us in our half but the team stood firm to hold out against a wave of attacks for the first 15 minutes. Callum did a solid job at right back and Sean & George had their hands full with a really impressive, big  quick centre forward. St Clements continued to spray the ball wide to their dangerman on the right wing who looked a great player. Ethan certainly had a hard task on his hands but stuck to his task, often without help from midfield. Aidan was on great formin  net & their strikers must have wonmdered if they'd ever score against him. We dwelled on the ball too longin midfield, not letting our passes go quick enough but when we did let Jamie go he created some great counter attacks and should have scored a few against the run of pla... The under 12's started the season with a 6.3 away win against Delamere Rangers. In a hard fought game the lads started nice & quick going up 2.0 within 10 minutes. It should have been more as we created chance after chance. We then got a bit carried away attacking and left the defence exposed. We failed to challenge and clear our lines and before we knew it Delamere grabbed 2 goals. This only acted as a wake up call and we grabbed a goal going into the break 3-.2 We started the second half with great desire, made a few changes and the fresh legs had a big impact as we started to cut through the Delamere defence. To their credit Delamere really made a game of it. They showed real passion and the game went from end to end in a great example of junior football. The pitch was small which challenged both teams to play a tight passing game. All the bridge lads performed very well, all winning their own individual battles before trying to play a good passing game. Man of the... Read the rest of this article...

The U'11's won the League Cup Final 3-2 in a brilliant game at Seal Park Mossley. The Bridge lads came from 2-0 down at half time to win 3-2 in extra time. Glossop started strongly & dominated the early stages. Kyle, Fletch & Joe put in the work but we were chasing shadows. Joe got injured to be replaced by Stuckey but we could not get used to the full size pitch & Glossop scored with what looked like a cross from a tight angle, followed quickly by a penalty. 2-0 down at half time Glossop must have thought they had won the game. We were all over the place with Aiden on top form to keep it at 2.0 The half time time team talk was not about a team looking at defeat.  Team talk was easy......go and win it for Gary & George who were in plaster, it worked, they came out like a different team. We changed formation and attacked. Lewis & Alex get their passing game going in midfield & we instantly looked stronger. Stuck... Read the rest of this article...

The U11's returned to form by beating Denton Youth 4-1 in a one sided game. After last weeks poor display when the lads let themselves down for the first time this year they trained hard & played some great football to comfortably beat Denton Youth. Denton are a very strong team that have a chance of winning the league this year, so the result was a little unexpected. Right from the start the bridge lads were on their game, every play trying to get involved & playing his part. The lads were told they are playing for a cup final place & they responded. We played some great give & go, moving, setting & supporting. Both keepers Gary & Aidan played very well, nice & carm, better concentration than of late. Garrett, Fletch Josh & Ethan look solid in defence & Sean & George have got to work hard now to regain their places having been first choices for most of the season. Midfield, great to have Joe Turley back o... The U'11 have reached the League Cup Final for the second year running. Having won the trophy last year we faced a more difficult challnge this yearwith the cup in a league format rather than straight knockout. We played 6, won 5 lost one and reached the final with a game to spare. We fave Glossop in the final having beat Duky Youth, Chadderton, Failsworth, 3D's & Clayton only losing to Glossop who we now face in the final at Mossley on 14 or 21st May. Recent league results have been a bit mixed, drawing at Duky Youth in a game we should have won, winning in the last few minutes at Failsworth and losing to Chadderton last week in a game we all took too lightly having reached the final the previous week. we've now made it very hard to stand a chance of catching Denton the current league leaders who we face saturday. Hopefully, true to form when it matters the lads will revert to type & put in a big performance as they're now playing for their cup fi... Read the rest of this article...

The U11's won 3D Dynamos 9-1 in a game of 2 halves. After so many cancelled games of late the lads were just glad to get out on the pitch but we struggled to get going until the second half.  We went in 2-1 up at half time to be be honest 3D's created quite a few chances & if it were not for Gary being quick of his line & a man of the match performace by George then things might have been different. We rang the changes at half time, threw on all the subs & the game totally changed. We created chance after chance & really got our game going. The lads were shooting at will & we scored some cracking goals, the best of the bunch being Morgans drive from 30 yards. Unfortunately the cup game against Glossop was cancelled but we are now set for Sat 19 at home. Lets make a big effort & get some support for the lads.

The U11's lost today 2-1 to Glossop. We started slow and didn't really get going until the second half. Glossop were the best team in the first half as we struggled to get our passing together to create any real attacking moves. Glossop didn't really create that any chances either but we gave away a sloppy goal. We weren't awake and let in a easy cross and somehow the ball broke loose through a packed penalty area to a spare Glossop player to stab it home giving Gary no chance. We made 3 subs and instantly looked better. We camped in their half for the whole of the second half and looked liked getting an equaliser. Jamie & Josh both hit the cross-bar as we started to open them up but it just was't our day. Joe was again very strong & just pipped Fletch & Ethan for effort to win man of the match. Just like the last time we played them as we continued to press for an equaliser they broke for their first attack on our goal & scored, 2.0 with 10 ... Read the rest of this article...
