Stalybridge Celtic Whites 2-0 Moston Junior Blues By Phil Read The Whites returned to cup action this weekend with a mixed performance against Moston that eventually saw them through to the final. They nearly took the lead straight from the kick off when a shot from Callum on the half way line but thereafter chances were limited and the half gradually turned in to a midfield battle with neither keeper having much to do. Despite good work from Luke upfront and Jack down the left the score remained 0-0 at half time.
However, in the second half the Whites gradually took a hold on the game with Nic, Callum and Rhys starting to find spaces and Shay's pace putting Moston on the backfoot. Following a sustained period of pressure Moston finally cracked when a cross from Nic was deflected in to the net. Not long after the Whites extended their lead when the ball fell to Callum outside the box. Alex and Sam were excellent throughout the game and the only time they looked stretched were in the final few minutes when Moston found space out wide and a cross was deflected from close range but Josh pulled off a fine save to keep a clean sheet.
Final score Whites 2 Moston 0. MOM Callum
