U7's Stalybridge Celtic Whites v Moston Valley (7 Jan 2012)

Score: 2-0

Goals: Luke and Wes

Man of the Match (chosen by Moston Manager): Adam

New Year, New Rotation System and definitely boots with go faster stripes (from Santa no doubt).  What a speedy game!  It felt more like an evening at the dog races or have the parents bought remote control boots ha ha!!!!  Maybe it was the turkey and trimmings or the Whites were all loaded and popping with several tonnes of chocolate but something made them explode!

This game could have had the score line 20-0.  We had chance after chance at the Christmas stocking but hey we were all proud and pleased with 2-0. A truly deserved win.

The new rotation system found Lewis in pegs, Sam on guard, Fin and Adam in the midst and up front Wes and Luke.  Early action between Luke and Fin lead to corners and goal mouth scrambles in between some midfield battles and then here it came a fantastic pass from Adam to Luke, who was nestled nicely right in front of the pegs, who neatly scored our first goal - 1-0.

To follow came some fantastic runs from Adam, some dogged tackling from Sam and great clearances from Lewis. There were several shots at goal and some fantastic solo runs from Fin and Wes in very windy and cold conditions to close the first half ahead.

The second half saw Reece and Matty on the field replacing Adam and Fin, Sam continued in defence but this time in goal, Matty was placed in midfield and Lewis in defence. (Keep up everybody I know it’s hard to follow but with the new system and a frozen half to death reporter (that’s me by the way) I don’t know if what I am writing is nonsense or not!!!!).

With Reece and Luke up front and Lewis in defence, Matty and Wes, now in midfield, had their work cut out in the first few minutes of the second half in a midfield battle as Moston tried their best at a comeback but sure enough the ball became ours again and a swift corner from Reece scraped the front of the posts and yet again it was the start of many attempts at goal. I lost count of how many corners we took, even Matty had a go!

Matty had a good few minutes in midfield before swapping with Lewis back into defence and Lewis had a great outfield visit with lots of attacking and some solid defending (at one point on the edge of the box we thought he was going to score!). Sam played a good half in goal, considering this is not his usual spot, showing us some quality, skill and some great clearances. Finally, after several attempts at goal Wes shot for Glory and put a fantastic goal in the bag - 2-0.

I can’t do a kick by kick and blow by blow account guys, sorry all I can do is give you the highlights because believe it or not I don’t do shorthand and I can’t write as fast as our boys can run. So well done lads we should have Christmas and new boots every week from now on (make sure you tell your parents!).

Looking forward to next week already.

Finally, I think the Man of the Match for Moston Valley was definitely their goalie!!
