We score four goals and they scored two and we still didn’t get a win!!!

Stalybridge Celtic Juniors Blues 2 - 4 Moston Junior's 10th December 2011

Things were looking good immediately after kick off when CJ put a low, fast ball through to Jack in the Moston goal area, it was an unfortunate deflection off a defender spared Moston’s blushes. Five minutes in and Moston were on the attack, they pushed forward down the right wing and fired a cross through our packed goal area. Several feet were thrown out in an effort to push the ball wide but it was young CJ Boaler who managed to stick the ball in the back of his own net (had it been at the other end he’d have been up for goal of the match but that wasn’t the case). CJ and Holly put in a really solid performance and worked hard to keep the Moston forwards at bay, Holly with her “never say die attitude” and CJ with his “terrier spirit” were watertight until the break. Just before half-time Matthew came close to bringing us level but his efforts were thwarted by the opposition’s keeper. He worked really well up front with Jacob who had an outstanding game from beginning to end, tough tackles, rapid movement and constant communication with Jack and Matthew.

After the break we came under fire again. Thomas and his cat-like reactions saved the day on a few occasions. At one point he made four saves in quick succession the first of which took real guts and commitment. With the ball whizzing through the area it was Matthew this time who managed to put it over our line making it 2-0 to Moston and none of their players had scored! Josh and Joe were just starting to put their stamp on the game and causing the Moston midfield major issues when their lead striker chipped a “strike-it lucky” long ball and it drifted right into the back of our net. 3-0 down and less than six minutes to play, this was in no way a true reflection of how the game had been played out and most of our players thought we were still in with a chance. Fin and Jack made several great runs at the Moston goal, one of which saw Jack brought down by a late tackle just inside their box. Backed by his team Jack scored his penalty making it 3-1 and we looked spirited and energetic again. Wasting no time Fin soon too possession, running up field and passing the ball out to Josh on the wing, Josh turned and passed the ball into Jack, Jack unleashed a great shot and yet again found the back of the net, 3-2 and it was all to play for. Matthew came back on for the closing minutes and almost brought us level again, his pace leaving the Moston defenders in a cloud of dust. Sadly it was Moston who managed to steal a goal in the last few seconds making it 4-2 as the ref blew for fulltime.

Its our last match before Christmas next week, lets maintain our spirit and close the year on a win!!!
