Score: 2 - 1
Goals: Sam and Luke
MOM: Fin (chosen by Midway Manager)
Our winning White Warriors pulled it out of the bag again! A different starting line up this week saw Reece and Wes up front, Adam and Sam midfield and, with no change at the back, Lewis in goal and Matty in defence.
Good early pressure by Celtic saw some exciting goal mouth scrambles with Adam having first attempt at goal picked up by, what was to become, a very busy Midway keeper, another shot at goal from Reece followed shortly after. A tap up from Mattty to Sam who then created the pass of the match to Reece who unluckily found the ball at his left foot - had it been his right foot, well we will never know!!!
Great play in the first half saw a 0-0 score line, just to summarise we put the pressure on in scenes reminiscent of The Alamo with Wes and Adam contributing to the high tempo play by giving the Midway players no time to rest on the ball, but we just could not finish.
The second half started with Fin and Luke replacing Wes and Reece and straight away Fin was brought down for a free kick which he took and put slightly wide, seconds later after a dogged solo run through a mass of players he was brought down again, and again the ball was scrambled off the goal line.
After loads of runs and shots came a goal from a short corner played to Sam who struck a fierce cross/shot that travelled through a packed area and nestled into the far corner of the goal.
Our second goal was a hazy mess, from many close attempts, by Luke at the Midway defence who kept bouncing the ball backwards and forwards which could have been mistaken for a game of pinball! The goal was attributed to Luke after a valiant effort which was disputed as an own goal, but Luke struck the ball well which hit the Midway defence and landed in the goal so we think Luke deserved the credit.
Midway's only goal came from a shot directly at Fin which he blocked with his head onto the foot of their defence who struck again at Fin which caught his wrist and in the cold weather must have stung like, well like you know what. With his wrist injured the final insult flew over everybody’s heads and hit the back of the net! The final scoreline - 2-1.
Special mention to Lewis who had a quiet game but played well when he had to!
Great game boys keep up the good work it was more exciting today than the thought of Christmas morning, just a few more gift wrapped goals would have been fantastic !!!!!
Can anyone stop them now?
