U11s Reclaim Top Spot for Xmas

Stalybridge Celtic under 11s finished the second half of 2011 unbeaten and reclaimed top spot in the league with a comprehensive defeat of Breaks 147.

On a pitch holding water and cutting up badly, Celtic dominated from start to finish with Luke in goal hardly troubled during the game. A missed penalty inside two minutes was a pre-cursor to a host of other missed chances throughtout the 60 minutes, with the ball getting stuck in the mud, the keeper making saves and the lads missing the target or not putting their foot through the ball. However, they did create some fine opportunities with Jack and Brad controlling midfield and Macca looking lively on the left.

Stalybridge took the lead on the quarter hour. A short corner led to a quick interchange of passes before Brad's cross was met perfectly by the head of Elliot to notch his 13th goal of the season - not bad from just five starts. The lead was doubled nine minutes later when Macca cut inside on to his right foot and found the roof of the net with a fine strike to take his tally to 11.

Celtic were camped in their opponents half of the pitch after the break, but some good defending and some lacklustre finishing kept the score to 2-0 until two minutes from time when a great switch of play by Jack allowed Bomber to shoot high in to the net. Two minutes later it was 4-0 when, following some very good team play, Keenan's deflected cross was turned in 'Balotelli like' off Bomber's shoulder to claim his second of the match and his 14th goal of the season to remain the team's top scorer. Thankfully our very own Super Mario is better behaved on and off the pitch!

Charlie picked up the man of the match for a solid display at the back, doing his job to the letter and helping to limit Breaks opportunities to a bare minimum. While Celtic found themselves back at the top of the table afterwards with games in hand and just seven matches left to play.  Keep it up lads.

FINAL SCORE: BREAKS 147  0  CELTIC 4
