Stalybridge Celtic Juniors Blues 1 – 3 Chaddy End 3rd December 2011

Another tough game, another display of great sportsmanship and character…

A shaky start by the Blues which allowed Chaddy End to drive into our goal area, their shot wasn’t particularly well struck but it bobbled in front of Thomas making it impossible for him to stop. Matthew put in two screaming runs cutting through the defense and was only denied by the skills of the Chaddy End keeper. On the odd occasion where the ball found its way into our half, the thunderous right boot of Jacob sent it spinning back over the halfway line or out of play to safety, Jacob’s maturity and smart play keep impressing the observers and denying our opponents week after week. Once we found our stride it didn’t take long for us to draw even. A huge throw from CJ landed the ball with our latest signing Fin R in midfield, Fin passed a neat through-ball to Joe who swiftly returned it to Fin who was still on the move towards their goal. With only the keeper to beat Fin cocked the hammer and fired the ball into their goal like a seasoned pro. 1-1 at half time.

After the break we were caught napping and Chaddy End stole the lead, this was despite some outstanding defense from Holly and Jacob. Joe also played a big part in defending our line despite being played in a forward position. Holly fought solidly for the last ten minutes tackling hard, chasing every ball that entered her area and communicating well with Jacob. Unfortunately our efforts were in vain and the final score was 3-1 to Chaddy End, though they’re a great team I can’t help thinking the score-line flattered them a little.

Next week brings a new challenge and another tough team! We knew the move into the Failsworth Premier League was going to be a tough one but no-one said it would be this tough! It’s great that the kids are still motivated and enjoying the games, all we need now are the results we deserve!!!
