Stalybridge Celtic Juniors Blues 1 - 1 Boundary Park A November 26th 2011

What a match, not smattered with goals but a focused effort by every player and some amazing passing to boot!

Stalybridge Celtic Juniors Blues 1 - 1 Boundary Park A

Goals: Joe

MOM: Josh

We might have got the curse of the Whites!!! A month or so ago the Whites were doing everything they could, passing, shooting, tackling, running, talking to one another EVERYTHING just not getting the goals they deserved! This match was fine example of exactly that. Thankfully the Whites have turned a corner and all their hard work is now paying off. They’re winning tough games against hard teams and with plenty of goals to show for it!!! But for now, the Blues don’t seem to have luck on their side.

The match played out in a similar way to last weeks with one fundamental difference… PASSING! Each and every player made accurate and direct passes. The standout run of passes came when Thomas released the ball to Holly on the wing,  she turned and skipped past one player, looked up and passed the ball to Josh in midfield, Josh drove forward taking on two more tackles from Boundary Park before placing the ball at Joe’s feet, Joe took one touch, looked up and smashed the ball passed their keeper, 1-0 to us.Holly and Matthew both had several good runs with the ball before passing it forward to the strike force of Joe and Josh. Jacob played well in midfield, switching form forward to defensive positions when required and making himself available for Matthew. Playing an active part in clearing the ball from our half, Matthew also put in a couple of crunching tackles that Paul Scholes would have been proud of!

In the second half Jacob volunteered to go in goal and what a keeper he was! He saved two solid and accurate shots, stopping one with his fingertips and the other he caught and held like a pro. CJ and Josh drove forward time and time again in the closing minutes but a second goal wasn’t forthcoming. With Fin and Joe playing out of their natural position (a gamble that didn’t pay off and the manager must take the complete blame for) we seemed to be holding our own, Fin even had a shot on target but the keeper pushed it wide. With legs getting tired and the weather closing in, Boundary Park struck lucky, foxing the defense and sneaking a goal. 1-1 was the final score and to be honest flattered Boundary Park.

Well done to all our players for maintaining your positivity and welcome to Fin who I’m sure will be a great asset to the Blues.

I know, I know, it was 1-1 not 1-2, my mistake. Not only late but incorrect too! Sorry folks :(
