Celtic under 11s maintained their 14-game unbeaten record and recorded their 100th goal of the season with a fantastic comeback to defeat Delamere Rangers on Saturday. They now lie two points behind leaders West End with three games in hand, but it was hard work to overturn a 3-1 deficit before running out 4-3 winners.
Having defeated Delamere in a pre-season tournament on penalties and drawn 1-1 at their place earlier in the season, the lads were warned to expect a very committed performance from the opposition. However, looking less than lively in the pre-match warm-up, the message was further re-enforced before kick-off, but within four minutes they were 1-0 down. The lacklustre start continued for almost 20 minutes and by that time they were trailing 2-0. With Kai having pulled up injured in the warm-up and then both James and Sid having to be substituted due to feeling unwell, the lads were really up against it.
But as they started to find their feet and create chances, they were handed a lifeline right on half time when Keenan was brought down in the box and Tom converted the penalty. Shivering at half time as the rain poured down, the lads knew they hadn't done themselves justice and were determined to make amends. However, within five minutes of the re-start they were 3-1 down thanks to a delightful finish by Rangers outstanding player.
After that though it was all Celtic, as they laid seige to the Delamere goal. Macca looked to have wasted a good chance with a heavy first touch, but he managed to recover to knick the ball ahead of the keeper and then finish off in to the empty net to make it 3-2. From a corner by Brad, Daniel brilliantly volleyed in the equalizer with 15 minutes to go, and then from another corner, Max was alive to poke in the loose ball to make it 4-3 and score the team's 100th goal of the season.
Delamere pushed three players in to attack in the final eight minutes to try and grab a goal, but the Celtic defence held firm with Callum, Daniel, Charlie and Lewis throwing themselves in to challenges and Luke looking very solid in goal.
Max was awarded the man of the match for 60 minutes worth of commitment, effort and endeavour, although there were several other good performances once the lads got going 20 minutes in. Seven of the boys now have 10 or more goals for the season which shows what a team effort it has been so far. Keep it up guys!
