U9's Whites v Boundary Park A Sat 26th Nov

Stalybridge Celtic Whites 2-1 Boundary Park A .    By Phil Read

For a change the Whites found themselves struggling with the early pace of the game and were under pressure. Fortunately Josh was on top form and a match for most of what was thrown at him. Even when breached Sam was there to clear off the line. That said, as the half continued the Whites started to create a few chances of their own most notably from Rhys who was unlucky not to send the team in the lead before half time. In the second half the Whites started the brighter with Sam pulling the strings having been moved in to the middle and Rhys and Jack looking dangerous on the wings. Shay just missed out on a cross from Jack with Rhys just firing over the bar. Soon after Jack hit the cross bar after foul on Shay but then found themselves 1.0 down conceding to a well worked corner. Fortunately this seemed to rally the team to finish the stronger and soon found themselves level when Callum picked up a loose ball and slotted it in the corner. As the opposition pressed for a winner the Whites hit the sucker punch, grabbing the winner via Callum, this time on his left. The game finished 2.1 to the Whites.

After being under pressure for a long period in the first half and then going behind early in the second, the boys showed lots of character keeping their composure and trying to play the football they are all capable of. With 2 goals in the last 5 minutes they showed their desire to win the match despite not playing as well as in recent games. Boundary were unlucky not to take anything from the game after a good first half but credit to the Whites for a hard fought finish.Well done boys.
