U11s produce dynamic defeat of Failsworth

Celtic under 11s met league leaders Failsworth Dynamos on Saturday and came away with a 3-1 win to maintain their unbeaten record and to move within two points of the top of the table with two games in hand.

Failsworth started brightly and James twice made good stops to keep them at bay. But after five minutes Bridge started to move the ball a lot better and began creating chances. They went in front when Jack swept the ball out to Tom whose first time pass allowed Max to poke the ball past the keeper. The game was very competitive, but it was Celtic creating the better opportunities with the midfield working well and Max and Bomber causing problems with their movement up front.

Stalybridge really took control in the second half, applying pressure and defending extremely well. Callum, Charlie, Daniel, Nathan and Sid were rarely threatened, while Brad, Jack, Kai and Tom worked tirelessly in midfield. Therefore, it was definitely a suprise when Failsworth equalised, Celtic failing to clear their lines following a throw in and despite a suspicion of offside it was 1-1.

From then on though it was all Celtic. Three chances flew past the post, the keeper denied Macca 1 on 1, Brad's chip was inches over, while about 4 players had a go at scoring right on the goalline when the ball got blocked and then stuck under two defenders legs. But with time running out, from Brad's long throw, Kai's shot was saved and Macca hooked the ball back in and despite Failsworth clearing the ball the referee signalled it had crossed the line. Within a minute it was 3-1 when Elliot hit the post but was alive to the rebound to score his 12th goal of the season to cap an excellent performance after coming off the bench.

It was an extremely good display by the lteam, as good as they've played this season, really working hard as a unit and creating countless chances. The victory means Celtic have now met every team in the league once this season, winning seven and drawing two of the nine games. Same again please lads!

There were good performances all over the pitch, but both Celtic and opposition managers were in agreement that Brad was man of the match with his best display of the season.
