The under12's beat Reddish Vulcans 4-1 in the Manchester County Cup.
The lads had to score a few wonder goals to get a result today against an impressive Vulcans team.
Once again it was down to hard work rather than flowing football as Reddish are a strong outfit. They played 3-5-2 with their 3 defenders having really impressive games and their midfield dominating play early on.
We started to get into it with Josh & Alex really having to work hard and kept sliding in Morgan who was driving forward and won quite a few corners. We hit the bar 3 times and their keeper pulled off some good saves before before we eventually got a goal with Marshy driving in a great cross for Kyle to net. He just always reacts first in the box and is well into double figures already this year.
The game was opening up and it was good to have George back on form, putting in some good challenges and playing some decent short passes. He was being matched by Stucky who was equally as impressive, making himself available & linking well with Morgan. Garrett was playing sweeper, he had a quiet game but was doing his best to organise the back four. Gaskin had his hands full with their no 8 who posed a real threat. but he wasn't diving in but was strong when he had to be and is getting better every week.
We started the second half nice & quick, Jamie was stretching them on the right & James offering a bit more on the left linking well with Alex. Then up popped 'why is it always me' Morgan, with a strike from from 30 yards just dropping into the top corner. Reddish were still pressing and got a goal from a free kick through a crowded box.
The game was becoming stretched as both sets of lads started to look tired. We got a few more corners then Josh L scored with an overhead kick to put us 3-1 up, much to the delight of Steve Lowe who celebrated like he'd won the world cup.
Reddish still didnt give up and nearly got one back with a cracking drive from outside the box but Ethan pulled it out of the top corner. His distribution was nice & quick all day and set up quite a few counter attacks and he is growing in confidence each game his has to deputise while Aiden is on trial at Everton.
Kieran came on & bagged a goal to seal the match with a great strike into the far corner. He's showing some nice touches and retaining pocession now that he's getting used to the team and he nearly got a second when Morgan put him through. Josh C nearly got in on the back post following a great cross from James as we started to really grow in confidence.
The game finished with Reddish really piling on the pressure with our defence having to concentrate right to the end. Josh L & Alex really played well today covering every blade of grass and it was good to have Morgan playing to his ability and George getting back to form. Man of the match went to Gaskin for another solid performance.
Another hard game, once again it was 'team-work' that got us the result.
Well done lads, see you Thursday.
