AVRO 2 v 1 SCJFC Blues....By Alun Ireland...
Connor was on the scoresheet in the first minute, and the Blues spent
the early stages on top with Callum, James and Connor coming close.
But they allowed AVRO back into the game as they stopped passing and
moving, and instead played as individuals. Tome kept the scores level
with a great tip over the bar just before half time, but the Blues were
losing momentum.
The second half was nearly all AVRO. Brandon was unlucky to put a shot
wide, but at the other end Tom was again forced to save, Daniel S
headed a cross off the line and it was only a matter of time before
pressure told.
A long distance free kick looped into the net to make it 1-1, but the
Blues came back with Tyler and Callum coming close.
Finally a scrappy goal gifted AVRO the lead, which they held on to in a
scrappy finish.
Owen was man of the match for his bravery and work rate, but this was
at least one point lost.
AVRO 1 v 2 SCJFC Whites
Another closely fought game saw the Whites run out winners, despite a
late comeback from AVRO.
Stalybridge dominated the opening moments as Oscar pulled the strings
in midfield, supported by Niall and Dec.
So it was no surprise when Oscar’s driving run and skill on the left
found space for him to cross to Dec who made no mistake.
Deacon had to be alert when he tipped a shot onto the bar, but in
general the Whites did not look troubled and Archie, Adam and Oscar all
had chances saved by the keeper.
Stalybridge continued the pressure in the second half – the best move
of the match again involving Oscar’s skill putting Dec into the box,
with Dec’s first touch buying him space before the keeper saved his
outside of the boot shot.
Dec was again involved for the Whites second goal – playing in Niall
who was the coolest person on the pitch as he put the ball low to the
keeper’s left.
AVRO were gifted a goal when the ref harshly gave a penalty for
handball against Jack I, but the Whites held out for both points. Man
of the match was Declan for a superb all round performance.
We play again next week in the cup..
