Stalybridge Celtic Whites 5-2 Failsworth West Tigers By Phil Read
Unlike the first 3 games of the season the Whites managed to get straight in to their stride this week, playing some flowing football and opening up the Tigers midfield at will. It was only a matter of time before the Whites would score and that came from Shay with a glancing header.
Following the early goal the pressure continued, for a couple of minutes the game was like penalty area pinball with shot after shot being blocked by a brave and determined Tigers defence, Shay, Rhys, Jack and Nic all being unlucky not to score. Through this passage of play Josh only had one real save to make and comfortably dealt with the one on one at the edge of his box.
The Whites managed to extend their lead midway through the first half with a break down the right, the ball was then squared to Nic who fired the ball which span in to the back of the net in off the post. Unfortunately the Tigers found their way back in to the game, hitting the Whites on the break and pulled a goal back.
The Whites did not let their heads drop and continued to play flowing football, where called upon Alex and Sam were solid at the back sweeping up anything else thrown at them in the half. With growing confidence the Whites continued to press and before half time grabbed a 3rd through Nic.
The second half continued the same as the first with the Whites playing some great football, but whilst looking to finish the game off were hit by another goal from the Tigers.
The Whites maintained their composure and soon after found themselves 4:2 up, with Nic completing his hat trick having been played in down the left by Luke. Despite Celtic extending their lead the Tigers continued to fight, but everything they threw at us was snuffed out by Alex and Sam who played the ball out through the gaps that started to appear. It was only a matter of time before another goal, which eventually came via some cool play from Rhys who then found the bottom corner to finish the game 5:2 to the Whites.
