Glossop NE JFC 2 Stalybridge Celtic Blues 0........By Alun Ireland.....

The Blues worked hard without ever really getting their passing together, losing to a tough Glossop side.

The boys started well, with Tyler having a shot blocked in the first five minutes from William’s run, but a lack of communication at the back then saw the Blues concede a sloppy own goal. With four Celtic players in their own box, and not a single attacker, the ball bobbled into the net.

Minutes later, a Glossop corner bounced off the bar and then Thomas’s hand, but the defence again missed their marking and Glossop had a freeshot to double their lead.

The rest of the half was scrappy without much passing and movement, but the boys were still unlucky to be two down when they had limited Glossop to just one shot.

The Blues made a livelier start to the second half, with Brandon and Tyler both causing problems. When a Glossop defender handled the ball on the edge of the box, tyler put the free kick just over. Glossop then showed how it was done when Thomas was unfortunate to handle out of his area, the visitors smashing the ball home.

Jack I and Tyler both had chances from distance, and Niall was unlucky to hit the bar – credit to the Glossop keeper who stopped everything and was first to most balls outside his box. Niall again was unlucky to hit over the bar when he was first to react to a corner, but while the second half was better, the score remained 3 – 0.

Glossop NE JFC 0 Stalybridge Celtic Whites 2

The Whites made sure the points were shared with a display that got better the longer the game went on.

The first half saw the boys struggle to put their usual slick passing together, and Joe had to be alert to clear off his own line after just two minutes.

Deacon was then forced to pull off a reaction save, following it up with another great stop when the loose ball fell to a Glossop striker.

As the game went on though, the Whites began to out pass their opponents, and when Robson played in Callum, the striker saw his shot go just wide.

The second half was a different story. With Archie and Joe solid at the back, the Whites played further up the pitch and started picking up the pace. Archie and Callum both went close, before a Declan effort was cleared off the line, and Callum again hit wide.

But he did not let his head go down, and when an Oscar corner caused confusion, Callum was first to react and hit home.

Archie and Joe made sure Glossop were limited to shots from distance, and when the Whites won a corner, Oscar and Dec’s routine caught their oppenents off guard, with Declan doubling the lead.

After that the Whites shot at will, and could have won by more.

The Blues Created their own downfall , with every Glossop goal from a Stalybridge Mistake. But we all make them and the boys will hopefully learn from them and come back fighting next week.
Whites did well, though they made it hard for themselves, though in the last ten minutes they really looked strong and should have won by more...
