Celtic under 11s retained their unbeaten start to the season and their position at the top of the Tameside Football League with a resounding 14-0 defeat of Waterloo at the Soccer Centre on Saturday morning.
For the third successive week, the game was won in the opening quarter of an hour as Bridge stormed in to a 4-0 lead. Daniel South's excellent cross was headed powerfully in by Max Norman after only ninety seconds and Stalybridge doubled their lead through Nathan Greenhalgh's expertly taken penalty two minutes later. Max pounced on a loose ball to add the third, while Kai Forrest skipped past a couple of challenges before neatly making it 4-0 after 13 minutes. Keenan Owen ended a scramble in the box for number five, but despite the scoreline and some neat passing, the first half display was below the teams best.
However, in the second half they stepped up a gear as Kai got his second following good work by Jack and Tom and then completed his hat-trick from a corner. Nathan Dunworth (Bomber) set up Keenan for number eight, while man of the match, Jack Wray, scored twice in two minutes to make it 10-0, the second a fantastic move involving Keenan, Bomber and Kai who set up Jack to smash the ball into top corner from the edge of box. A great goal.
An excellent through ball by captain, Bradley Jinks, set up Bomber for his fifth goal of the season, while Macauley Eyre had great presence of mind to lay the ball back for Dan to find the corner of the net in making the score 12-0. A Waterloo defender turned in Tom Bennett's low cross for the next goal with Bomber and Keenan waiting , before Brad completed the scoring, finishing off a superb team goal involving Bomber, Callum Garlick, Keenan and Dan.
Another excellent display by all the lads again today to retain their unbeaten record and register a third clean sheet in the first three games. So no little praise should go to James Tomkow and Luke Greenhough in goal and Sid Holt, Charlie Pownell, Callum, Nathan and Dan in defence who allowed Waterloo just one shot on target all game.
