Today was the start of a new season and it was a last minute change of venue by the league to Astley Sports College that added to Celtic's woes today against Curzon Ashton
The grass on the pitch was very long and this really stopped the boys playing the ball on the floor the wayst we are used to playing.
Curzon B 6 v 4 SCJFC Blues
The Blues went behind very early as Curzon started the game at a quicker pace. A few moments later the boys were 2 down, however we were playing some great stuff and it was the long grass stopping playing which stopped us from keeping the ball down, Midway through the first half Callum was on target with a superb goal and again moments later we were level, again from a great Callum effort, and were looking like scoring a hatful, before half time Dan S latched onto an Archie cross to put the blues 3-2 up at the break. again the blues look the better side but against the run of play Curzon equalized. A few defensive switch offs and a slight lack of fitness saw Curzon score two within the last 5 minutes.after Callum had got his hatrick. A game the Blues did not deserve to lose, but a few lapses in concentration and not clearing our lines handed Curzon the match, but overall a lot of positives came from this.
Curzon A 2 v 1 SCJFC Whites
Now it was the time for the whites to play against a very physical Curzon who were certainly up for it. A goal from Brandon meeting a cross put us one up. The whites had most of the possession and were usually camped inside the Curzon half with the Curzon keeper pulling off some great saves.
Second half saw the Whites again start brightly though we were not using our width to our advantage and were bunching at times with no real outlet from the centre. A shot from Tyler which was half saved and clearly crossed the line was missed by the ref , and a free kick from Joe which hit the crossbar should have had the game wrapped up, but Curzon kept going and their efforts were rewarded with a clinically taken free kick with was unstoppable , and with seconds to spare a lack of concentration again let them in to seal the win. The boys deserved at least a draw, however they had enough chances to wrap it up and those mistakes came back to haunt them. A few of you will have bruises tonight but we need to learn to live with this.We can only get better as we proved at last weeks tournament after losing the first game..
