Stalybridge Celtic A 5-1 Broadway Celtic
The A’s were forced into making several changes today with the absence of Josh in goal. Callum kindly put on the gloves and settled well with some good dead ball kicks and quick throws out. Stalybridge were out of sorts in the opening minutes and uncharacteristically lost their shape in the middle, this gave Broadway a couple of early breaks which Alex dealt with superbly at the back. Sam moved upfront as Marcus received attention off the pitch, and following a whipped in corner from Rhys on the right he quickly latched on to a loose ball in the box to score. It wasn’t long before Sam got his second with a strike on the edge of the box after some sustained pressure from Stalybridge. Broadway who looked a much improved team from earlier in the season scored just before half time with a powerful strike following another break straight down the middle.
Sam moved into the centre in the second and with Jack and Marcus coming back into play Stalybridge looked the stronger team. Shortly after the restart Rhys scored with a great long range effort on the right to make it 3-1. It wasn’t until the last 10mins though Stalybridge began to pass the ball like we have over recent weeks. Jack showed energy on the left and linked well with Sam, Marcus and Rhys creating several goal scoring chances. He was rewarded with a good goal following a powerful run and shot on the left. The Broadway keeper had a tremendous game with a string of excellent saves in the second half but was helpless to stop the fifth a bullet close range header from Marcus after a corner. Nathan held a solid defence in the final minutes as Alex was given a rare opportunity upfront, and he almost scored springing well in the Broadway penalty area narrowly missing heading a certain goal. MOM Alex.
