Celtic under 10s completed a well earned double over their upcoming cup final opponents, Failsworth Dynamos, in their penultimate league game of the season on Saturday.
The 'B' team looked rather sluggish during the first half, allowing Failsworth to control the game and take the lead. But the growing influence of Brad in midfield and the work rate and commitment of Bomber up front began to turn the tide as the game progressed.
However, with so little for the Dynamos keeper to do, perhaps he was suprised when Bomber lashed in a low shot from 20 yards with just a quarter of the game to go. It certainly changed the momentum of the match and Bomber's desire to chase what looked like a lost cause brought a second and the winner when his shot from a tight angle defelcted in off a defender. A great end to the game, but the lads can't afford to wait 30 minutes to start to play in the cup final. Bomber won the man of the match award for his hard working committed display and two fine goals of course.
FINAL SCORE: CELTIC 2 FAILSWORTH DYNAMOS 1
By contrast, the 'A' team began very brightly and produced an excellent display, both in terms of quality and effort. Jack had an early shot turned round the post and Max fired over before James produced a good save and Jack followed it up with a fantastic block to deny Failsworth the lead. While Max produced a lovely bit of skill but was denied by the keeper to keep the score at 0-0 at the break.
A chance in formation followed for the second half and it did the trick as Max finally got on the scoresheet, responding quickest after a shot by Henry. However, with chances going begging it was inevitable that Stalybridge would get punished and so it proved when Dynamos equalised. But Celtic never stopped creating opportunities and it was great skill by Jack to set up Max who cut inside a defender and finished left footed for goal number 35 of the season to round off his man of the match display.
Well done lads. Two similar victories on May 7th now please!
