Celtic under 10s completed a scintillating double on Saturday morning to reclaim second place in the table, with both the 'A' and 'B' teams defeating rivals Curzon Ashton, a team who'd previously only lost two league games all season, with some superb football.
The 'B' team started on the back foot as Curzon poured forward, but after weathering the intial couple of minutes they gradually found their feet and then dominated the game. Callum and Nathan provided a solid foundation at the back that allowed Macca, Kai and Keenan to get forward to support the lively Bomber in attack. Bridge took the lead when Callum's ball forward bounced over the head of the defender and Bomber, quick as a flash, got in behind and held him off before finishing in style.
Celtic continued to play most of the game in the Curzon half but once again couldn't find the killer instinct. The match was level when a speculative long range shot found the top of the net above Luke's reach, but it didn't alter the course of the match. However, as chance after chance went begging and with Luke having little to do at the other end it looked like the match would end in a draw. But with a couple of minutes to go, Kai scored an absolute beauty, curling his shot in to the far corner of the net around two defenders and the keeper to snatch all the points. A great team performance once again by the lads as their good run continues. Nathan received the man of the match award for another excellent display.
FINAL SCORE: CELTIC 2 CURZON ASHTON 1
The 'A' team also dominated the majority of their game, scoring three fantastically well worked goals and turning in their best preformance since the defeat of league leaders, Hough End. They led 1-0 at the break when Max put a perfect through ball for Jack to run on to. As the keeper came off his line to narrow the angle, Jack, first time, slipped the ball underneath him to score and cap a fine return to the side.
James had little to do in goal, being well protected by Sid, Henry and Rhylee when he came on as sub, allowing Henry to operate in his more customary right wing role, while Jack, Brad and Tom dominated the midfield. Within a minute or two of the change, Bridge extended their lead when Max produced an exquisite turn to leave his marker for dead before drillling in a low 15 yard shot across the keeper and in to the bottom corner. It was soon 3-0 and all over when Henry played Max in down the line before sprintng in to the box to meet the cross first time on the volley.....what a goal!
The quality of the finshes and overall play of everyone was top drawer and Celtic thoroughly deserved their win and margin of victory. Sid picked up the man of the match for a faultless display, but like the 'B' team, any one of the lads could have walked away with the trophy today.
FINAL SCORE: CELTIC 3 CURZON ASHTON 0
