Mixed day in the West End for Under 10s

Celtic under 10s had a mixed day against West End Boys Club in the East Manchester First Division, winning one and losing the other to effectively end their chances of claiming the league title.

It took the 'B' team the first half to really get going before stamping their authority on the game. There was plenty of early pressure and the fourth cormer of the match gave Celtic the lead. Nathan whipped it in and a deflection off a defender left the ball nestling in the net. Elliot doubled the advantage straight after the break, pouncing on a goalkeeping mistake, but West End immediately responded from a corner. However, within a minute, Bridge's two goal advantage was restored with a fine left footed strike by Tom. Nathan added a fourth with another clean strike and his corner was then helped in to the net for a fifth to complete a comfortable victory. Again the win was forged on solid defending and Rhylee picked up the man of the match award for an assured display.

FINAL SCORE:  CELTIC 5 WEST END BOYS CLUB 1

The 'A' team somehow succumbed to defeat despite hitting the woodwork five times and shaving the post on 2 or 3 other occassions, but it was just one of them days when lady luck disappeared for the lads in front of goal. With ten minutes to go and the score still deadlocked at 0-0, West End broke away and finished well to take the lead. After so many near misses at the other end, the lads heads dropped and West End doubled that lead soon after. West End's keeper twice tipped shots on to the bar and he may have well kept a clean sheet had we played all day with the luck Celtic were having.  Even so, some of the lads need to take more responsdibility when the rub of the green goes against them. New signing Henry performed well on his debut and picked up the man of the match award. He certainly looks a good player, so hopefully its a sign of things to come.
