Broadway Celtic 0 V 4 SCJFC Blues.......................By Alun Ireland.........................................................
The Blues returned to winning ways with a comfortable victory over
Broadway Celtic. The scoreline did not reflect Celtic’s dominance as
they created chance after chance, easily having more than 20 shots at
goal.
In terrible conditions, the Blues were quickly out of the traps to
immediately dominate position. William ran the game from midfield,
knowing instinctively when he should run into space or find a team
mate.
But a few chances went begging before Celtic could get on the
score-sheet thanks to some brave goalkeeping and last ditch defending.
The first goal came when William was quickest to react to a clearance
from the keeper, striking the ball so cleanly that the goalie could not
keep it out even though he got a good hand on it. From there it was all
Celtic for the rest of the half, as Jack hit the bar from a well worked
short corner and Owen was unlucky with a header.
But when Daniel S played a perfect corner into the box, Owen – the
smallest player on the pitch – jumped highest to head home and double
the lead.
The second half started much the same as the first, with Daniel S and
Jack solid at the back, allowing others to push forward.
Great determination from Owen as he chased a lost cause won possession
back for the Blues and Will hit another unstoppable strike to make it 3-
0, and he then completed his hat-trick when Daniel L won a brave tackle
in midfield before putting Will through again.
Celtic were almost caught out three times at the back as they drifted
further up the pitch – only a smart stop by Deacon, a last ditch tackle
by Jack and a brave block by Daniel S helped keep the clean sheet.
But on another day the Blues might have doubled their total, with Adam
especially unlucky as he hit the post, forced two fine saves from the
keeper, and on several occasions made intelligent runs into excellent
positions without then receiving the ball.
Men of the match were Daniel S and William, but everybody else also
contributed in a welcome return to form.
