SCJFC U9's Whites 4 V 0 Failsworth Dynamo's Whites..........By Tim Kieran........................................................
A slightly disappointing first half with both teams finding it difficult to get going on a very cold but clear morning, understandable after a long break over Christmas and the cancelled games due to the snow.
Celtic were lucky not to go one down after a free kick was awarded to Failsworth with the resulting shot coming back off the post and scrambled away from the area by Celtic.
Stalybridge found them selves one nil up, slightly fortunate but a goal is a goal. A Declan cross along the floor only found the keeper at the near post, but somehow he fumbled the ball over the line.
A few minutes later it was nearly two nil, Oscar won a free kick just outside the box after a good mazy run, the referee, who had a good game initially, played advantage but when the Celtic move broke down he pulled it back and awarded the earlier foul which was good refereeing, Oscars free kick was cleared off the line the ball falling to Archie whose shot saw the Failsworth keeper diving to his left to push the ball wide, the score 1-0 at half time.
The second half was a better affair, the Celts having now got into their stride, with Oscar and Declan working well and linking play with their team-mates, this better football paid off and after some decent passing the ball was sprayed out wide to Archie who played the ball back into the box for a well deserved goal from Oscar with a good finish into the roof of the net to make it 2-0. Celtic were pretty much in control and went three up with a well taken goal from Archie latching on the end of a cross.
Tom kept it at 3-0 with a wonderful stop with his outstretched leg to deny Failsworth a certain goal, and Tom was at his best again a few minutes later, a free kick to Dynamo's after Tom was adjudged to have handled the ball just outside his area, the resulting free kick was then well saved and then another three blocks from Tom in the goalmouth scramble that pursued the initial save.
The game ended 4-0 with an excellent finish from Robson - a free kick awarded to Celtic - after Robson was brought down dead central just outside the box , after gingerly getting to his feet, Robson took the free kick up and over the three man wall and placed it into the only gap visible, the top right hand corner.
It was good to see the boys playing football again, a little rusty at first but soon were showing signs of how they have played in the first half of the season cementing their deserved top of the table position. Well done everybody. M.O.M. Declan He continually caused problems to the opposition and today was everywhere as the teams engine, a great display!
