Celtic U12's Win 5-4 in a Villa Thriller

Stalybridge Celtic U12's vs Clayton Villa (Divisional cup 2nd Round)

Celtic Win 5-4 in a Villa Thriller

A super start for the Under 12's in this years Divisional Cup, with a 5 -4 victory against very good Clayton Villa side.

The venue was a windy Mossley Rd - with Celtic winning the toss and electing to use the wind advantage in the first half. The Blues set of at a blistering pace netting 4 goals in the 1st 15 minutes, with strikes from Ben Caton (2), Kyle Heap (1) and Liam Greenhough (1). Villa fought back hard and steadied the Blues pressure,  the half time whistle blew with Cetic bouyant at 4 - 0 up.

The second half was always going to be tough as Villa pressed on using the wind advantage. A corner from the left into the near post saw an under pressure Callum Gabbatt head into his own net. Once again Villa pressed the Blues defence, but with a great defensive clearance the Blues broke away, Kieron McColgan smashing into the net from 10 yards. Celtic 5 - Villa 1. But fate is a cruel mistress and once again the outstanding Callum Gabatt fired into his own Celtic net this time after attempting a clearance under Villa pressure. Celtic 5 - Villa 2.

Villa continued to pile on the pressure and scored twice as Celtic battled to maintain their well deseved lead, after series of corners from Villa which were superbly defended by Celtic, the Ref's whistle blew for the final time. Celtic 5 - Villa 4.

A classic all action cup tie with great performances from both sides. A difficult decision for PC and PD  to pick a Man of the Match as so many players gave their all, but Jack Gregory got the nod for his superb "never missed a tackle or header all day" performance. Well done Jack.
