Celtic under 9s completed their league campaign with a double over Reddish Vulcans on Saturday morning at Wright Robinson School. It wasn't enough to win the East Manchester JFL First Division title, a poor February did for that, but it did mean they've taken 14 points from the last 16 to end their season in style and top form ahead of the Primary Cup Final against Dukinfield Youth next Saturday.
The 'B' team streched their unbeaten run to 7 games, with a 2-0 victory that was more convincing than the scoreline suggests. Nathan and Bomber both got on the scoresheet as Celtic had the lions share of possession and the chances, but couldn't add to their 2 goal half-time advantage. Lewis and Callum provided the security for James at the back, while Josh again controlled the midfield. Nathan took his chance really well and Bomber continued his recent good form with his 12th of the season. Keenan provided Elliot with the chance to make it 3-0 right on full time, but his shot went agonizingly inches wide of the post. Well done again lads, keep it up. Man of the match Lewis for a composed display.
FINAL SCORE: CELTIC 2 REDDISH VULCANS 0
Jack ran the show for the 'A' team, scoring 4 times in a 5-3 win, in a game that produced some football that even had neutral parents on the touchline asking if their lads could join the team!
Brad, Dan & Max provided the ammunition for Jack who finished off 3 lovely fast-flowing moves that you just had to stand and applaud. A couple of defensive lapses allowed the Vulcans back in the game, but Kai settled whatever nerves there might have been with a fifth to cap another good display by him. At times, Celtic broke so quickly with swift, accurate passing it is difficult to believe the lads are only 8 and 9 years old as they simply passed the ball in to the back of the net. Jack made it 17 for the season and walked off with the man of the match award for another all-action display. At times, it was a real joy to watch. Well done to all.
FINAL SCORE: CELTIC 5 REDDISH VULCANS 3
