AFC CLAYTON 2 v 0 SCJFC BLUES By Peter Roberts
The Blues put on a very encouraging display against one of the very best teams in the league. The peformance was was a fitting tribute to the departing coach Stuart Davenport, who has done so much to help the development of the boys at the club and will be sorely missed.
The first half was a barnstorming affair, with both teams playing progressive, attacking football and creating chances, whilst the defenders played as if their lives depended on it. What was also really pleasing was the high standard of the football on display. It was 0-0 at half time but that doesn't do justice to how enjoyable and entertaining it had been.
In truth, the Blues performance in the second half wasn't as good as it was in the first, but it was still impressive and the boys could easily have scored at least one goal. Unfortunately the quality in the Clayton team eventually wore the boys down and two quality strikes finished the boys off.
We shouldn't be downhearted though. There was enough in today's performance to suggest that the Blues can match anyone on their day and the good habits and right approach to the game will reap its rewards in the years to come.
All in all then a good season for the boys, with some excellent performances and at times real progress being made. Well done boys, keep working at it and the results will come. Well done to the coaches for their encouragement and expertise. Its a privilege for the parents to be involved and a great way to spend Saturday mornings.
