U8s Blues Back On Form!

Moston Valley 2 v 4 SCJFC Blues                                 By Peter Roberts

The Blues put in a very competitive performance today as they continued their return to form in the Failsworth sunshine. Well done to the boys, they have really responded to their coaches' words and looked much more like the team that started the season so well and have given some of the best teams in the area a tough time over the course of the season.
The game started scappily but was brought to life by the back to form Adam, who rifled home a stunning drive from a great ball by Archie to make it 1-0. It was great to see the hammer back in action. At this point the Moston boys began to dominate the game and great defending by Jack and some fine saves by Thomas kept the Blues in the game. However an equaliser came, from a stunning corner, and it this point the Stalybridge boys were second best. Full marks to the lads and their coaches though, they clawed their way back into the game, with Callum and Archie in particular causing problems and a superb finish from Archie, his twentieth goal of the season, gave the Blues the lead just before half time. In addition Moston's attacking threat had been nullified by better defending.
The second half was as competitive as the first and it was pleasing too see the boys in such a determined mood. No one epitimised this more than Daniel, who really put himself on the line for the team in the middle of the park. It was the two subs though that really made their mark in the second half. For the second week running Will scored a great goal, he went a step further this week though by adding a  second. At the back Conor maintained his brilliant form, with some outstanding defending. A highlight of the second half was Adam's stunning long range free kick that hit the post and deserved so much better. At this point the boys were playing some great football and the win was in the bag, though a late second for Moston Valley gave them a deserved consolation. The goal came from a corner again, something of a trend for the Blues in recent games.
The victory was deserved though and all the boys gave great displays. Today, like last week, was a performance that should give everyone hope for the forthcoming  tournaments and next season. Well done to all involved. Men of the Match, Archie and Adam. Two boys in great form.
