A brilliant day for the Stalybridge Celtic Lads. The A team beat Duky Youth 2-0 to reach the final of the league cup.
The B team were looking strong at 0-0 only for the game to be postponed due to the heavy pitch.
The A team won every ball from the kick off. They showed real heart & determiniation which won them the game against a very good Duky team. Stucky worked his socks off, giving their defenders no time to settle. He linked well with midfield & always gave the team an option. Alex showed his usual class, out wide today but he didn't give an inch. Morgan dropped to midfield, and although tired, held his position well & always posed a threat going forward. Jamie Derbyshire, wide right, had the pace to beat the Ducky defence every time he drove at them which led to the first goal after linking well with Morgan & Stucky. Josh Lowe & Sean were imense at the back. They worked together really well, Josh closing down, wining all the headers with Sean holding his position growing in confidence throughout the match. The game went from end to end & in the second half Duky pegged us back, only to face Gary Flowers. He excells when he is busy & he pulled off some good saves to keep the lads in it. He picked up a few kicks for his efforts but would not leave the field when injured in the last 5 mins. After a few breaks we finally got the second goal to kill of the game, upto then it was very tight. Again, Alex, Morgan & stucky linked to set Jamie off on a run to tuck it in the bottom corner. Unfortunately Luke & Aaron didn't get on today as we were keeping them for extra time, but it is a team game & they will get their chance again.
The B team started with a lot of pressure against a Duky team now determined to win. Duky looked strong but Matty & George didn't allow too much past & Aiden looked on form behind them. Lewis had a lot to do on his own in midfield at times, Ethan didn't start too well, but along with JD & Owen , with Josh on for an injured Lewis they were just starting to get into it as the ref called a halt to the game with the pitch churning up. To get past Duky the lads are going to have to show as much heart as the A team, but they know they are more than capable of joining the A team in the final.
Well done lads, now the challenge is for the B team to show us how much you want to be in the final.
