The under 10's had the luck against them both losing to Glossop, 3-2 & 2-1.
The Scorpions had to start without Gary Flowers in net as we couldn't switch the game, which meant him driving 100 miles to make it by half time which the team really appreciated. as he was quickly in thown into action, being quick & brave from the the start. We started with Josh in net & after weathering in the early storm the Celtic lads got on top. Sean played well on his own in defence with Alex just ahead of him carrying the ball out well. Morgan dropped into central midfield & is putting in great performances now every week. The whole team played well with Stucky, Aaron ,Jamie working the wings & Luke upfront all holding their shape. With goals from Stucky & Morgan, Gary in net & Josh back in central midfield we tried in vain to finish off Glossop when leading 2-1 but we could just not get the 3rd goal. In the last 5 minutes the lads ran out of energy & lost concentration to give Glossop a little too much space & payed the price with 2 late undeserved goals to take the game 3-2.
The Cobra's knew they were in for a hard game from the start after an unlucky own goal within the first minute. Glossop were big & strong and closed us down quickly. Aidan had to pull off a few saves in the first half to keep us in it as the game became stretched with chances for both teams. A few of the lads didn't have their best games, the strength of the competition appearing to be a shock to the system with that extra 5% effort missing or running down blind alleys instead of passing. George, Matty, Ethan, Garrett & Lewis all gave 100% but is was not quite enough on the day. After Matty equalised we often had the chance to set up a team-mate but instead chose to take on another player too many times, & ultimately Glossop got a goal through us not chasing back with the runners.
All in all great credit to both sets of lads to put on a great performace for their parents. A draw in both games would have been a fair result but all credit to Glossop who had the luck today, but we can't wait for the home game.
