A 2-1 away victory against West End Boys Club confirmed Stalybridge Celtic Under 11s as champions of the Tameside Saturday League this morning, an achievement richly deserved, after winning 15 of their 18 games and losing only once.
Twice the final game of the season had been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and so Bridge knew going in to the match that a point would be enough to secure the title on goal difference. However, the win is what they wanted and they started brightly, Bomber having an early goal chalked off when the referee brought the play back for a free-kick instead.
On a huge bobbly pitch, Celtic stuck to their passing game, but it was a scramble that gave them the lead, Max at the third attempt forcing the ball over the line. Bridge doubled their advantage when a driven free-kick from the left by Dan was superbly headed in by Kai, allowing the anxiety to drop just a little! James made a good save before the break an...

Stalybridge Celtic Juniors Blues 2 – 0 Failsworth Villa
MoM (Celtic): Fin
MoM (Failsworth): Jacob
………………………………………………………………..
Failsworth Villa were struggling to get a full team together so Jacob selflessly volunteered to play against his team-mates to help them out and ensure that the match could go ahead.
In addition to the “moonlighting” Jacob, Celtic were without the ever-reliable Thomas, so Fin pulled on the gloves in the first half. CJ played as the last man behind Holly with Joe, Jack and Matthew further forward. Josh sat out the first half.
Joe snuffed out an early attack, initially putting the ball out for a corner before completing the job by clearing his lines when the corner came over.
The Blues’ first attack was halt...

Score - 5-0
Goals - Lewis, Sam, Fin (x2), Luke,
Here we go, here we go, here we go!
Champiooooneees, Champiooooneees………what a perfect end to a perfect season!
With the League win already under our belt, Mark and Helen had previously agreed if we were in the position where we had won the League, Luke as Top Goalscorer (29 goals!!!) and Lewis our Safe Hands Keeper (18 clean sheets!!!) would swap roles. Sam kindly said that he would do a half in goal too. So we started off with Luke in goal and Lewis up front as the lone striker! Ads and Sammy mid and Reece in his newly formed position and Matty in his usual spot.
I won’t go on toooo much, so straight to the goals, Adam with a shot at the keeper who seemed to be made of trampoline material as it bounced perfectly to a very eager and determined Lewis who sweetly placed the ball in to the right hand bottom corner of the net. Goal 1-0 Lewis clearly excited ran t...

Score - 7-0
Goals - Luke, Sam (x3), Fin, Adam and own goal
MOM - Fin - Chosen by Dragons Manager
What a great game. We slayed the Dragons!!!!!
After last weekend's trauma, today the weather was perfect, the lads were perfect and the score was absolutely perfect. Todays match was a dream all the lads played superbly in and out of their usual positions, it showed that they have great strength and ability and a dogged determination to win. Well done boys.
Sam started early with a lovely run and a super pass to Luke and this set the tone of the match, as all the boys put in some fantastic passing, some nifty footwork (that did work most of the time) some great defending and some super tackles.
The first goal came from Luke after a pass from Sam that the keeper saved then somehow Luke picked it up again and scored Bang Goal 1-0.
Following on Fin smashed a free kick into the Dragons' wall and Matty put in some good clearances. ...

Stalybridge Celtic Whites 10 v 1 Clayton Villa
Goalscorers: Kyle (D) (2), Liam Riley (3), Jack Searle, Jake Maloney, Nick Taverozzi, Ben Bateman (2)
M.O.M: Liam Riley
The key to todays game was to maintain the home unbeaten run for the whole season.
With this in mind the boys decided to start the game as slowly as they could and concede the first goal to Clayton in the first 5 minutes.
As per the script of the whole season they then clicked into gear. With Jordan Mirza out with a hamstring injury the new front line consisted of Kyle (D) and Liam who looked like they had played together for years. The pass and moves and unselfish play was a joy to watch, ably assisted by the midfield 5.
The goals then began to flow, from cool slot homes, to volleys, to 30 yard screamers to precise side foots. The full array of finishes was shown in this game.
The goal of the game came from a through ball to Liam Riley who cut inside and on a hat t...

M.O.M Liam Riley
Due to the big premiership games and illness the team were without a number of players so the squad players got a good run out.
It also appeared apparent from the outset that the boys were going to stuggle to muster the same enthusiasm that they did when they conclusively beat Rochdale in the cup final the week before. It could have been so different if the 1 crossbar and two post shots had nestled in the net within the first 5 minutes. If these would have gone in Rochdale would have crumbled. They however new that a win would clinch the league title over Shawclough.
The boys tried but this was a poor team effort.
And so Rochdale won the league and we lost our unbeaten run which had lasted from October 11 until May 12.
Congratulations to Rochdale.

The U12's just missed out on the league, finishing runners-up which followed a defeat in the Manchester County Cup Final.
Despite not winning we have had a great season and all the lads should be proud of their efforts.
We've played some great football and tried to play an attacking, passing game when the conditions allowed.
The lads have improved tremendously and fought to get results in a very strong league. Congratulations to Heyside on winning the league & Hough End in the county cup. We have to acknowledge both had stronger squads and we suffered when we had bare eleven players in a few key games we expected to win, but after losing Aidan to Bury & Lewis to Everton the lads stepped up as a team.
Lads Vs dads this thursday, a few comps & camping still to be organised.
Well done boys, brilliant season.

Stalybridge Celtic Whites 1-4 East Levenshulme By Phil Read
It was a case of Jekell and Hyde with the teams performances today having played so well in the first of the games but lacklustre in the second. The whites were slow off the mark and never really got to the pace of the game so it was not surprising when they found themselves 1:0 down. The only opportunity the Whites managed to create before half time was when Callum found himself with space just outside the box but pulled his shot wide.
After the break things went from bad to worse as the Whites found themselves 3:0 down before they had an opportunity to respond when Jack fired a shot towards goal but was matched by a fine save from the keeper.
Even then they failed to stop the rot and were 4:0 down before Jordan pulled a goal back to 4:1. Shortly after the goal there were slight glimpses of how the Whites are capable of playing but the game eventually fizzled out in to a 4:1 defeat.
